While the G12 program has been helpful and useful to some churches in the Philippines, there has been challenging situations in many churches who adapted the program particularly Baptists and Evangelical churches. CBAP churches that are using or contemplating to use this approach as a church growth model are advised to be aware of some concerns we have observed in the implementation of the program.
The concerns and recommendations are as follows: 1. The material from which the program was taken has clear links with the viewpoints of Pentecostal and Charismatic movements which can bring confusion when absorbed within Baptist congregations such as CBAP churches. Explain clearly to the people the modifications you are doing to fit this program in the Baptist context. We commend churches that have discerned and filtered the materials as guided by CBAP.
2. In the employment of G12 curriculum for discipleship programs, be acutely aware of the theological content of the teachings particularly the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and second grace, ecclesiastical and apostolic authority of the G12 founder, looking carefully at the Scriptures as the final authority for faith and practice. 3. Certain practices within the EGR component of the G12 program are completely "foreign" when compared with the usual practices among our CBAP churches. Examples are acts of slaying in the Spirit, speaking in tongues among others. These must be explained thoroughly and should be engaged by members with complete understanding and volition on their part. The CBAP document on Affirmations and Denials will be the guide in evaluating such practices, a copy of which is attached. Let all rituals, practices, activities and phenomenal realities taking place within the adoption of the G12 model be clearly evaluated by Scriptural standards so that the "experience of Christianity" in such be correspondingly anchored in the Word of God. 4. Active and on-going dialogue among the church constituency must accompany the G12 model implementation to respond to any question or clarification that may arise about the program. |
